Photos of Earth II

Okay, smartguys. How 'bout THIS ONE?

Not a clue! lol!

Honestly? That could be my town. Or any town surrounding it. From street level, with no identifying landmarks, it just looks like any other nondescript Middle American hellhole on any given Sunday.

Well, if someone had some photo enhancing software, one could find out the name of the import(?) company in the white building on the left, or the name of the newspaper printed in white on the green paperbox on the corner. At that point, Google is a girl's best friend.

But alas, my poor Photoshop skillz are not up to the task.

I'm just going to take a SWAG and say it's downtown Burnaby on an early weekend morning. Of course, I have absolutely no earthly idea.

Okay, now you are just trying to drive us insane.

And no - I didn't just lose 30 minutes of my life trying to make out any of those signs and futzing about in photo editing programs. That's 30 minutes I'll never get back, thank you very much. :P

*sigh* Why couldn't you have picked a snap where the city name is right on the manhole covers like any respectible town should?!

However - I will take a random guess of Chicago.

hmmm...the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, post-Apocalypse. (approx. 10.15am, Sunday.)

Speaking of photo editing software, I think this picture needs some work.

There. Lots better.

It looks like...downtown St. Pete or Tampa, complete with wide open skies. But somehow I doubt it is.

Except I missed the fall colors on the trees in first look. Never mind, don't have that down here.

Not enough graffiti to be NY. Not enough traffic to Norfolk, VA. No Corn Palace, so that rules out Mitchell, SD.

Umm...it's an Alt Universe Earth populated by zombies?

Well, I'm going to take a guess and say it's NOT downtown Invercargill. Too many cars.

And URL is no help, either. Very sneaky. :)

hmm..
Scarbourough?

Vesica said...

ange - I tried that too. Great minds think alike.

And spubba - the zombie is a lovely additon. Now we don't care where it is so much as being grateful we AREN'T there!

Some questions for other people on here--

(1) Where have you seen yellow and silver fire hydrants? While hardly unique, fire hydrants in a single place tend to be a single color. Where I'm from, they're completely yellow.

(2) Just curiosity, what do the markings by the parking space mean? Not that I think they'll help, but curious.

(3) Is that a 35 cents on the back of the parking meter? (not all meters everywhere have that) And is that a bowling alley on the right?

This definitely looks like a downtown, but not of a large city. The buildings aren't tall enough. Even Indy has taller buildings all around its downtown. As does Chicago. Plus, there is the lack of graffiti. Well-kept cars, so downtown, but an office zone rather than commerical. So probably a smaller city with oak trees (and maples?).

Seriously, it resembles downtown Alexandria, VA. But there's no traffic, so obviously not. You are an evil, evil man (in the best possible way ;))....hmm, Vancouver, maybe?

*peers at it*

There's street lamps like that in older towns, or at least older sections of cities that've been preserved well. Six-story buildings, parking meters, what looks like a bookdrop... Not too dirty, but not hideously so. And... there's a Wrong Way sign in what looks like a fairly normal street.

So, I say Charleston, SC. Because there are random streets that look normal, but are really only one-ways.

I love my logic. :D

The lights look like lights from Vancouver. I remember when I was there this summer and I kept thinking "Wow. The lights are yellow." That and the buildings look familiar.

Oh you guys are funny. Kitsilano. Funny.

Halo said - 10.15 am. Sunday. THAT is almost exactly right.
.
It's Springfield, Mass. Where the zombies are hungry for brain and the little children are hidden away in boxes.
.
Love the zombie. Makes the scene look so much more, uhm, cinematic.

Pega said...

Springfield? That must be the part of town that we didn't get lost in!

After three hours of staring at it, all I can conclude is that the only distinctive thing about it is the lamppost. And since I know nothing of lampposts (or fire hydrants, for that matter), I'm just going to throw out any logic and say Guelph. Eh.

Cygnet said...

Oh hey! Pega, don't forget that we were driving around in the dark too so less clues that way. Now if there had been a dunkin doughnuts on the corner, it would have been for the win! \o/

Pega said...

Cygnet: You have a point. Now, the Dunkin' Donuts I'd have recognized straight off. Or the bridge of doom! lol

LOL too bad I didn't read the comments before spending 30 minutes in photoshop. :p

Well done with hiding any and all distinguishing marks.

Heh, spubba love the zombie addition.

I like this game! More! More!

Thanks for telling us where that pic is from. I was about to crack under the pressure. I think I broke my photoshop program. lol

Misty and I were conspiring to figure this out. It was like a tag team match.

Oh, well, see, it's a very special hellhole then, because it's where we met our Fearless Leader. And it sucks that we left so early on Sunday, especially since my plane ended up not even leaving until ZERO DARK THIRTY ON MONDAY MORNING ARGH. But yes, the place was completely deserted on Sunday, I did notice that, even if I don't recognize this specific location.

(David: I would've 'shopped a whole zombie horde in there for you, if I could, but, well, I don't have the time nor the zombies.)

Um, I'd have to say that looks scarily like an area of Wichita, KS. Really, down to everything except the weird colored fire hydrant. I spent several hours there one night taking pictures and walking up and down, so it really threw me when it wasn't Wichita.

Becky L said...

Very nice job with the pic, David. With the exception of the lamp posts it could well have been a shot of the town I live in in Central Illionis.

It kind of reminds me of some parts of Calgary...
