Push the wrong one and you could end up in Prince Rupert...

Here's a geek-out: The DHD set piece, built into what we call the organs (or pianos) up in the control room. They have an unfortunate design feature known as the "emasculator" which juts out into space, making quick evacuations of the control room a thing of high-pitched peril.
.
Notice the little taped numbers on them indicating the correct sequence for Earth. I'm not sure if I dialed it correctly during the take, which may explain why Rodney ended up in orbit around Betelgeuse with his ankles protruding from his ears...

Very cool :D

I've always thought the control room DHD was quite pretty...

Lovely imagery at the end there lol :P

The things you learn on the intetnets.

Any chance you're gonna go to the Vancouver Con? *please*

LOL...the "emasculator"

:) It's great to hear some of the behind the scenes stuff.

Hee, I agree with suz, great imagery.

I hope y'all get hazard pay...

The real problem is if you pushed them all correctly and Rodney is still in orbit and discombobulated. Definitely something to put in the quality control report.

How you doing today? Hope the weather isn't too nasty. Cold down here, but sunshiny.

Oh, thanks for the inside peek. It would be a trip for them to write that into the show. You're all running for the gate and Sheppard shouts, "Hit the Emasculator!"

Rosehawk said...

Well at least that explains what button you push!!!

Organs equipped with emasculators. What will those crazy Ancients think of next?

The idea of Rodney circling Betelgeuse in such a state would probably be appealing to a large portion of the population there in Atlantis...and Radek could probably go back to Earth a rich man if he were the kind to accept bribes...

Anyway, Happy Solstice, and thank you for the behind the scenes peek. This sort of thing is always fun!

*bows* Thanks for the behind-the-scenes peek! I think it's fun to learn about stuff like that.

Y'know what looks perilous to me, though, on those sets? The tables in the conference room. I have no idea why anyone would want to put protruding metal tubes on tables like that, especially at that height. It looks like a life-altering stabby accident just waiting to happen, should anyone have to go charging around in there. Yikes.

This made for a perfect end to a really bad day! And I honestly cannot stop laughing about the "emasculator", and the image of Rodney floating around Betelgeuse, and probably ranting too! :P

A very Happy Solstice to you as well!

I second what Spubba said.

If I were on the set, though, I'd make a practical joke of rigging the DHD's with organ music every time you pushed them.

Somehow, I fear the day Dr. Z gets bored...

Jay, I think I just figured out why the Ancients wore those ridiculous big codpieces.

I wonder why the buttons are so big. Did the ancients have vision/coordination problems?

I still say the crystals in the control consoles are a piezoelectric combination of nanocybernetic and biochemical circuits. In other words, they're going to find out that you have to GROW ZedPMs. Once they hit a certain maturity level, the zero point energy subspace module inside creates itself due to the natural vacuum contained within. It also explains the eventual natural decay rate.

Anyone wanna bet me $10 US?

(Oh my god. I've turned into a technological continuity geek... ignore my brain.)

~cackles~ is that where they send the people that miss their marks?

"ooh Chuck flubbed that line again--TO THE EMASCULATOR WITH HIM!"

There could be an entire episode based on that, and the dangerous conference room tables, as mentioned previous. I swear it's amazing you guys don't spend all day getting bandaged up for some scrape or another.

I was just looking at the enlarged version of that photo, and I noticed the papers at the top. I physically had to turn my laptop on it's side to make it out, but do they happen to be the different dialing sequences used for the show? The 'sheet music', as it were? Very curious. :)

...it does explain the codpieces, though. Good call, Spubba. *snickers*

The detail on the DHD itself is awesome. Thank you for sharing!

Ah, yes, you know what we like, David. Thanks for the behind the scenes peek...heh, sending Rodney into orbit...tempting sometimes, no?

bunny boy!!! =D *yes it's one of those crazy Australians again, the squirrels made me do it, honestly*

Haha I always wondered how you all remembered the sequences. Do you think they'll ever rig them up so you get a different note with each button? Sort of like Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind or something...hehehe.

As to putting McKay in such a position...well...I'm betting Zelenka would be the next candidate for head scientist... *wink*

Ahhh. It all becomes clear. I knew there had to be *some* kind of promotion system in Atlantis... :)

Ok, on the first sight I thought it was made of chocolate *facepalm* I think I have a really low level of sugar now *snorts*

Anyway, thanks for the picture :D Looks very nice, hehe :D (even if it's not made of chocolate :P)

So Rodney got SPLICED? (Sorry HP comes out once in awhile.)

((*kicks for not letter her log in properly under her own name*))

*ahem*

*LOL* Always wondered how you remembered which order to press the symbols. Dunno if Rodney'd be too pleased with Radek if that happened, though...*snerk*
