CERN, VIFF, and Presidential Debates

Okay, so now they've had to take the Large Hadron Collider offline because it was overheating. Well duh. I could see that one coming. I kept telling them 'just pull over and top up that radiator fluid' but did they listen?.. They NEVER listen to me...
.
Went to some pretty cool forums today at the Vancouver Film Festival. It was TV Day and the topic was "Series That Have Legs". Ironic, no? And you know what was the most common factor cited as "hooking" and audience? -- Character. Good strong, identifiable characters. They draw an audience.
.
Whew. There's hope for me yet... (so if you know any exec. producers out there looking to cast a series - bump my name up, will ya?)
.
Speaking of hope in troubled times: watched the US presidential debate on TV tonight (the Canadian election was on another channel, but it wasn't as good a show) and I must say I was impressed with the level of debating going on. It was sure a relief to hear intelligent discussion after what we've been seeing and hearing for the past eight years. I wish you guys well. I wish us ALL well. Pick the right guy.
.
Can you guess the song Robert Picardo is playing?

What song Robert Picardo is singing? That's kinda like asking how long is a piece of string... someone may have a hint by working out what chord he's playing, I know G and A and ...well, I used to know a few, many years ago but that knowledge appears to have left with a lot of other stuff and gone to find a cooler brain to live in.

Ok... many hours no sleep here so I'm rambling silliness ...

I saw David Hewlett twitter something about auditioning for something earlier - I hope that if not already that you'll be auditioning for an exciting new role yourself soon....

David's coming down to Oz in November - anything we should know before we meet him? How about Robert Picardo? He's coming in Feb! ... and when are you coming back?

"Bridge over troubled water"? LOL Thanks for updating, we've missed you! any auditions in the works?

Lapis said...

Hmm, looks like Bob is playing something off of one of his albums? I'll have to dig them out and listen again...

I don't know any executive anythings, but we may have an opening for a Customer Service manager soon! But you'd have to move to San Diego...

Well, they just cancelled my show now,
Oh, I'm in a pickle.
I don't know what I'm gonna do now,
If I can't work with David Nykl...
.

Er.

I've just sat through about four hours of CNN coverage of the debate and poset debate analysis, Can't complain, our general elections are four days after the US ones, but they don't even rate in the entertainment stakes. And we don't have Anderson Cooper.

Character! I had the pleasure of listening to 'Zero Point' this week (I did a little dance when it arrived, ahem), and I was so taken with it. If anyone out there hasn't gotten it yet, I implore that you do, it is a fantastic Zelenka character study, and just so damn awesome.

All That Hadron Collider needs is some number 8 wire and a very clever New Zealand-born engineer. They'll be back to those sandwiches and black holes in no time.

Cheers for the update. :)

Let me guess... You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... emm, no, wrong series... ;)

Regards from Spain!

I'm guessing he's playing something by Johnny Cash. :)

Good luck with the job hunt!

Hmm, chord position, mouth in the "eee" shape....

Nope, I got 'nuthin'.

I've been following Has the Hadron Collider Destroyed the World Yet? for my updates.

The only Exec Producer I know lacks character himself, but I'll let you know if I hear anything.

As for the debates? They were on against baseball here & we were out on the town, so guess what every available screen in the place had on? Besides, if I had been home, I would have had SciFi tuned in. Much more believable stuff on there!

Always good to see an update here from you!

No idea on what Robert is singing, but Jason appears to be entertained. ; )

RE: good characters in TV. Wow! Glad to see that's the talk these days. Of course, my friends and I have been saying for years that's what drew us to our favorite shows.

And speaking of great characters in a favorite show, watched "First Contact" last night. Zelenka was FABULOUS! Great work under pressure. Can't wait to see how it all works out in part 2 in a couple of weeks.

He is singing "Maui Hawaiian sup'pa man" to Jason - I have only heard it sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Hey David, great hearing from you again....been so long, what like three weeks.

And then Radek dry spell was over last night. Nice work in First Contact. Can't wait to see how you guys get out of that one.

Robert, hummm what he is singing...
could it be something like this....

Twinkle, Twinkle little star
You really are so very far
My home is there for me to say
I get there by Voyager
and Atlantis is my stay.

Hopefully with the presidential candiadates they will start focusing on the issues now instead of the character bashing.

I wish you the best of luck with finding a new gig, hopefully one where we get to see you weekly!

I've been a fan of Bob Picardo for years and it somehow escaped my attention that he plays the guitar. Thanks for the photo, David!

Maybe Bob's made up one of his parody songs for Atlantis that he can sing at cons like he does with his Star Trek tunes.

I hope all is well with you and you're getting plenty of auditioning in.

I'm look forward to seeing you in November in New Jersey. Will you have time to tour Philadelphia while you're here? It's just full of photo opportunities. Let me know if you need a tour guide! 8^D

About the song--I would bet that he is too sad to make up cool lyrics. My money is on "Leavin' on a Jet Plane".

Good luck on the job hunt. I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard for a talented guy like you!

Song - Slip Sliding Away!

Wow, can't fathom what Robert's singing, so won't embarrass myself by taking a guess and listing Dr. Demento tunes ;)

Ah yes, the collider has been fun to follow. More so than the meltdown on Wall Street, which is why I'll watch the PRez debate later. I needed to relax, not stress out, on Friday night, so I watched Zelenka do the gloom and doom spiel that Rodney usually does ;)

Here's hoping you score a good role soon (preferably something we U.S. folk can watch or, um, *cough* get by alternative means).
Alas, don't really know any producers, but hey, you really should see if you can get on CSI: Miami... .Joe Flanigan, Ben Browder, Michael Shanks all did it and seemed to be good roles afterwards. :)

Tori said...

I guess something he wrote himself! No idea :P

Good to hear from you, and the pictures are welcomed too. I can't believe filming is over for good :'(

Picardo is singing a love song...
So David are you auditioning?
I could see you in Ugly Betty as a flamboyant fashionista or in Smallville as a crazy demon.

David! I'm glad to know you got the pics of us Hewlett Squirrels together with you at DragonCon. Thanks for the reply.

All of us Squirrels have our paws crossed for both of you Davids (as well as the rest of the cast) to find WONDERFUL HIGH PAYING acting gigs! *big grin*

You are terrific so I'm sure you will be on a show soon! Let us know as usual...so we can watch you.

Best of luck,

If I had to guess, I'd say Picardo is singing "I've Had the Time of My Life".

I'll say this: "First Contact" is now my second favorite episode of Season 5, right behind "The Shrine"...great performances from everyone - Joe, David, Rachel, you, Chuck, et al. Can't wait to see what happens in two weeks!

(BTW, I didn't realize you collapse the city's shield to work INSIDE Atlantis...interesting).

Keeping fingers crossed that you'll be able to find another great role soon...it's hard to believe this season is already halfway over.

Hi, David.

Thank you for another entertaining blog update and the lovely photos.

:)

I'll guess that Mr. Picardo is singing, 'Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?" Although, with inflation, and all other things considered, maybe it's been upgraded to: 'Brother, Can You Spare a Million?"

Best wishes, David. Knock 'em dead on your auditions, and break a leg (although, not literally).

Well, I don't happen to hang out with any excutive producers normally, but if I run into any I know what to say ^^
Thanks for the update. Is it lame to say that I check this every day?
What song? The Star Trek theme? I donno, I can't play guitar so I have no clue

i miss radek!! i hope that we will see in the future movie of atlantis!!

good luck for the future and your next roles!!

No, all the LHC needs is you and Hewlett to show up and pretend like you know what you're talking about. He can throw in some technobabble, you can throw in some choice Czech curses, and by the time everyone's figured out what's going on, someone will have figured out SOMETHING to cool it off.

I'm glad someone is getting amusement out of our presidential debates, as I'm kinda tired of watching all the politics by now.

And I'm also glad to hear from you. Pictures are always nice, and I can't wait to hear what your career brings next. I know I'll be watching for you.

LOL!!! It looks like those guy at the Haldron Collider could really use someone who knows what they are doing. I think Zelenka could show them a thing or two. : )

Thanks for pics and update. It really brighten up my Monday morning.

Personally, I'm still waiting for the LHC to destroy something. The universe, Earth, France, whatever...

You update your blog about as often as I update mine, but better late than never, right?

By the way, thank you for the phone call from Dragon*Con to certain a young(er) lady who had been released from the hospital only three days earlier. It was very much appreciated.

Hey David,

Any update as to when Helen is coming out? Most of what I've seen says it's out in 2008, which is almost over and I haven't seen anything formal announcing a release date in the States.

morjana said...

Hi, David.

Just read some nice comments about you at SciFi novelist Keith R.A. DeCandido's live journal and thought I'd share:

http://kradical.livejournal.com/1407128.html

Stargate Atlantis

...I was especially pleased that, with Rodney having been kidnapped along with Daniel, David Nykl's Radek Zelenka (my favorite character on the show) got a chance to shine. I still hold to my theory that Zelenka's really the smartest person on the expedition, but he prefers to let Rodney take all the credit, as well as all the responsibility, so he can just sit back and work to his heart's content without the agita. In fact, during the fourth season, Rodney was the third-smartest person on Atlantis (after Zelenka and Carter).

:)

Best wishes to you, David!

Hey David,
Love the Zelenka photo. I always love Zelenka photos. I guess that will be it until the movie...also wanted to say Happy Birthday to me today. Good luck with the auditions and can't wait to see you in Sanctuary in a few weeks.

Radek was great in 'The Lost Tribe' last night! It's nice to see Zelenka throughout the whole episode!

David,
Just wanted you know that you rocked in First Contact! Your character was amazing! And he saved the day! Wahoo!

Cheers

Whoa, David, you're on SANCTUARY and you didn't tell us? (or maybe I don't remember). ANyway, IMDB has you listed for the October 24th episode. Cool.

Hi, David.

Looking forward to your appearance in Sanctuary's 'Kush.'

Any anecdotes you can share from the filming?

Best wishes, Morjana

Hi David!

I flipped on SciFi channel the other day just in time to see you get ripped in half by a pterodactyl. Very convincing flailing!

Just wanted to say thank you for five seasons of great work. Hope to see you in the SGA movie and many more projects in the future.

Deb

You were great in Santuary tonight. Too bad it is not a reocurring role!
Even though I knew this was a new character it took a bit to get use to your character not having an accent.

And yeah, we get some Zelenka in two weeks!

Carpenter said...

I remember Bob playing his guitar all the time on set (He was pretty good actually). I really need to get back on the set of SGA.

Take care David,
