Two wheels are better than one

You guys are the best. Really. Your posts, emails and support are very encouraging as we wrap up production on our fifth and final season of SG:A. I mean how many people during these tough economic times have a group with placards and guitars show up to protest the end of your job? You don't know how much I appreciate your support, because I don't say it enough: so thanks. Thanks for your posts and emails, your pictures, poems and ahem, imaginations. You're wonderful.
.
Now with a bit of free time on my hands, I pulled out the map and revisited something I've wanted to do since I was nine. I've always wanted to explore the thousands of kilometres of logging roads in the mountains up the coast from Vancouver. There's so many compelling places on the map that are simply empty of anything except a dotted line indicating a hiking trail or deactivated logging road. "I wonder what's there..."
.
I spent three days a few weeks ago on my motorbike in the hills above Jervis Inlet. The weather was glorious and the bears were cooperative - opting to leave the trail when they heard me approaching. A good thing too, because they've been loading up on calories for the winter and 20 pounds of blackberries makes for an ursine sugar rush I don't want to witness.
.
A week later, I was back on the mean streets, this time in L.A. and without the benefit of an internal combustion engine. I opted to do most of my biking at Venice beach - but you don't actually go anywhere except up and down the boardwalk. And I had people to meet, things to do, places to go. Besides, the wildlife was scaring me.
.
Los Angeles, auditions, and peddle as fast as you can. That's the best way to evade the bear.

Glad to hear you got a chance to do something just for you.

And cooperative bears are always a good thing!

Wilderness exploration, how fun! Glad the bears left you alone. And good luck with your auditions.

Your posts always make my day - and it's been hectic the past few weeks so this one today was nice to see.
I hope you continue to blog even though Atlantis has met the unbearable fate that it has. (Yes, silly pun was intended.)
Have fun exploring the sites you've wanted to see and do since you were nine! Just don't get lost..... we gotta have you back for the Atlantis movie!

And watch out for that wildlife in LA, sometimes I think the bears in Canada would somehow be safer to be around!

Good Luck with auditions and look forward to seeing you in many more movies and/or TV shows.

Wow! You're the only one who got a picture of me at the rally. I'm that little black blob in the bottom right.

I'm glad you didn't have any run ins with bears on your road trip.

Glad to hear you didn't run into any bears. They're just not fun at all.

And hope you get something wonderful at your auditions. Seriously, it's tough these days, but I'm wishing you the best.

Hooray for travelling! In the legendary words of Monty Python: Always look on the bright side of life. I'll miss SGA incredibly much, with all my favourite characters (Zelenka is definitely one of them), but new challenges and possibilities awaits, and I'm sure you'll do great! Best wishes!

Hey David,

Thanks so much for the photos. Yup, those fans were great. I know a lot more people would have showed up had there been time to organize, but the clock was ticking.

Fingers crossed that the auditions go well. Definitely want to keep up with your latest work. :)

Glad to hear an update from a cast member! David Hewlett has been neglecting his twitter since you guys stopped shooting. The road trips sound like a lot of fun. I also enjoyed seeing you in Sanctuary for however brief that may have been this week. Hope auditions go well and you get a steady job soon.

Yay for logging road adventures. It's good to hear you're able to get out and enjoy some fun time for yourself. And thanks for sharing the photos - that overlook is absolutely gorgeous!

Enjoyed your recent performance in "Sanctuary" (even if the poor guy had to be among the first to get killed). ; )

Best of luck with the endeavors in LA.

Hi David, I just wanted to say thank you for stopping by that day in front of the studios, I was among these fans (I am the French one!) and we had an amazing time talking to you all and visiting the studios. And thanks again for the cookies !!!

Wish you the best for the future!

Venice Beach? What an odd, small world. My friend Claire, who is Canadian, was blogging about biking Venice Beach just a couple days ago. She's a professional dancer with pink hair. Perhaps her California disguise is better than yours, mmm?

Best wishes always.

The best of luck with your auditions.

Awwww, that is so cute! Okay, this is my first post here ever, but since I ran into that blog, I've always enjoyed your cute, humble and sharing (with the fans) stories. That is so nice, I cannot express my gratitude for actors such like you. You talk back and share with the fans, what a blast. So, thanks. Really.

And I HOPE you're gonna find another role real soon so we can enjoy ourselves a bit of Nykl-itude! ^^

Also, I have to say, I am really jealous over your freedom trip, except for the motorbike thing, I'd rather take a minivan (if I had money and a drivers licence ;-p ) so I could sleep in it. What a luck. And an encounter with a bear?! 8-D OMG! Jealous I am, really :-p.
I'm glad for you and wish you many moments like this in the future.

Ho, and what an helmet :-D, there's an Atari sticker on it, so geek! :-D Gotta love that.
Makes me think about the movie "Wild hogs" and the character of the great William H. Macy, who had gotten an Apple tattoo on his right arm ;-D . Long live the geeks!!

Take care, ^^

ps= maybe a full helmet would be better so that your chin could be protected. :-)

Awesome, I have loved your work in SGA. I also have to say I wonder if you encountered any bears in LA. I guess the best way to avoid them, is avoid West Hollywood :P
