Eureka...

My alter-ego, the annoying voice inside my ahead, aka -David Nykl, who claims to be an "expert" on all things Zelenka, disappeared last night into an alternate universe...
.
Coming soon to an iPod, TV, or LCD Monitor near you: David Nykl will be appearing in episode 3 ("Unpredictable") of SciFi's other hit series "Eureka", Season Two, as Dr Stephen Whitticus - a scientist with a secret of Global Warming proprtions.
.
I had a lovely time on set with Colin Ferguson, Erica Cerra, Joe Morton, and Salli Richardson, as well as my lovely Eureka wife: Stephanie Von Pfetten. We finished at about 3:30 in the morning, so I didn't get to take any pictures of the set, I could barely get on my bike for the short trip home: we were filming Eureka about two-hundred feet "across the tracks" from my trailer on the Atlantis set, where I had been just a few hours earlier on Tabula Rasa.
.
A double day in two universes for this Nykl guy, and no wormholes were needed. Just two wheels and some sprockets.
.
I'm not sure when it airs. Does anyone out there watch the show? What's it like?...
.
Oh, and before I forget, next installment of Guess the Location coming very soon...

Oh huzzah! Eureka's a beautiful show! I was already excited that it's coming back soon, but now I have your appearance to look forward to! :)

Congrats on the Eureka part. I like that show. I am glad to hear it was renewed. I will certainly keep an eye out for you. : )

Since you were travelling between two universes you may have missed this news flash. ; )

You know, you're the reason I'm watching TV again. And I'm not sure that's a good thing. ;)

I shall have to track down the air date and make sure someone with the correct skills (in other words #1 son or #2 daughter) is at home to record so I can get the screencaps done in a timely manner. Not that I ever do anything else in a timely manner, but at least I can make the attempt right?

Oh cool! I haven't gotten a chance to watch Eureka yet as lacking cable, but I've heard it's quite good. Is this a one-shot deal or will you be a re-occuring character in future episodes?

Heh. I love the video they used for the Atlantis vote. That episode might quite possibly be one of my favorites ^^;

Ok that statement right there tells me you should do fine in the atlernate univervse of Eureka. I've the seen the show a few times and found it be quite interesting and enjoyable in a strange sci-fi way. The alter-ego "David" should do well there.

I look for you on Eureka as well as on Atlantis.

Eureka's a fun little show. According to the commercials on SciFi, it'll be back on in the U.S. in July.

Fantastic! I'd heard ages ago that Eureka got renewed, but it had been so long I was afraid it had gone way of the dodo. Great news - and even more reason to watch! Yay!

It is a good show - although more in the cheerful enjoyment, rather than the must-see catagory. Except for your episode, of course :)

Mel said...

Huh. Never seen Eureka, but I've heard it's good. I don't need to be addicted to anymore shows, but I'll certainly have to check out that episode.

Thanks for sharing, David.

Eureka is pretty entertaining, kind of cracktacular and light-hearted. I liked season 1, so I'll look forward to seeing your episode in season 2! I also really liked you in Jake 2.0, by the way. I'm excited to see how this David Nykl person can play someone unlike Dr. Z!

Anonymous said...

Wow. That sounds so cool!
Eureka is a pretty decent show with great stories, although mostly in a very non-serious way I think. I'm looking forward to the new season, even more now that I know I'll get a chance to see you there ;)

I think it's great you get time to play different roles on other shows, it definitely keeps your fans on the edge. Loved the Psych episode you did last year as well...

Awesome! ...of course, this means I have to watch Eureka now.... ;) And I used to watch so little TV!

Whether it's Eureka or Atlantis, work is work, and work is good. Glad to hear that other folks are putting Mr Nykl's talents to use.

So, how many boxes of donuts have arrived at the studios for you?

Eureka! Of course that means something totally different to an Aussie like me.. ie the stockade..
Anyway I haven't seen it myself personally but I've heard it's very good, Although I wll endevour to watch teh 3rd episode of the 2nd season now I know there will be a quality actor on it! ;)

Eureka's a cute show. I didn't think I'd like it but it's light-hearted and doesn't take itself too seriously; that plus a great cast and excellent guest stars makes it enjoyable despite the silly premise. (And, really, it's no sillier a premise than most of the stuff on Sci-Fi, certainly much better than most of their TV movies! No gargoyles, mermaids, or leeches--so far.)

Eureka is a GREAT show! Nice to know there will be an additional reason to watch it - when it comes back on. At least the location was close by for you.

David,

This is fantastic news for you!!! I really enjoy Eureka and I will look forward to seeing you on it :DDD

Any news on Radek's adventures in Season 4? We've seen some pics of the uniforms but I must protest if Radek is still stuck in his blue long sleeve science shirt...!

Have a lovely day David! :D

Ha - pulling a double shift huh?
Yes, yes I have enjoyed watching Eureka here in the UK don't know when we will get the next season though. I like it in the way I used to enjoy Northern Exposure - has the same off-the-wall vibe somehow ...

Now go vote for Rodney and Atlantis!!

I do enjoy Eureka but not nearly as much as Atlantis. You can bet I'll be watching the third ep, as I love it when I see an actor in a role outside what I am used to seeing them in. (that made sense in my head, I swear).

I just managed the other day to catch your ep of Jake 2.0 and was tickled to see you play a bad guy. Totally weird though. It helped that the look was completely different. (The Zelenka look suits you better, BTW -- who gave you the awful, evil haircut?)

Get some sleep... sounds like you had a long, hard day.

journal4g said...

Oh, almost forgot! That Mollozzi guy posted a pic of you and ChucK on his blog. Nice shot, loved the shirt and vest... I have a new desktop pic!

Wow, this is great. Eureka is a fun show to watch. This is soooo cool getting to see you do something else. It is so hard to find some of your other work to watch and enjoy. I'll have to make sure I am home to watch when the episode airs this summer.

Egads, you're riding a bike at 3:30 in the morning.

I watched the first half of the first season of Eureka, but didn't keep up with it even though I really enjoyed the show. I'll have to make sure I rent the DVD's as soon as they are released. :) Congrats on the part!

I can't wait for the next installment of Guess the Location. :D I'll have to start getting my search skills preped :p

Toni said...

Congrats! I love Eureka (After Atlantis it's the only other show i'm making a point of DVRing this summer...) so I was already excited that it was picked up for another season. Now I have even more reason to make sure I don't miss it!

CWise said...

Sounds like I'll have a good reason to watch Eureka this summer. And glad it was so close to where you were, a short bike ride is good for you. Even at 3:30 in the morning.

Anthony said...

Haha. Riding your bike to and from filming TV shows. It's like something from the movies. I can just imagine you wearing a helmet, riding a 1960's push bike and trench coat blowing in the wind.

Oh, wonderful! I've never really watched Eureka, but I'll be sure to watch your ep! Congrats, even if it was a godawfully long day for you. Hope the season's filming is going well.

Eureka is a quirky little show, with fairly good writing, production elements, and acting. It's grown on me quite a lot, and I hope it's around for a long time.

I tend to 'half-watch' Eureka due to life being life and the particular time when it airs; but several episodes have sucked me in and made me pay closer attention, and that's saying a lot, at this point in time.

With luck, Eureka will be a sleeper hit; I think the numbers were good enough for renewal, but I don't know if they were great enough to really cement it in place.

Hope your role can be expanded there as well - work is good.

I dun have time to watch Eureka as faithfully as I follow my other fandoms, but it really is a great show. And anything with you in it automatically wins! :)

I've only seen one episode of "Jake 2.0," and I only knew it was airing because hubby came upstairs to tell me to turn it on. He's so smart. ^_^

Have fun, and keep posting!

Paulína said...

Wow, I like Eureka and now I got one more reason:) Did your character died or there`s any chance you will be in some more episodes?

Icie said...

Never heard of Eureka... but then I guess it's because I like on the other side of Atlantic, duh! But I'll eventually check it out... ;)

I thought you said CRAIG Fergusun. As in the Late Late Show With Craig Fergusun... ANYWAY! Eureka. Just no.

woohoo IVE GOT IT!! i mean EUREKA!!!!!

thats cool cant wait to see your appearance!!!!!

Oh, Eureka is well worth checking out. I just adore that show. I'm sure SciFi will run Season 1 again so new people can be enticed in. I'd encourage everyone to check it out.

I kinda think of it like "Northern Exposure" meets a think tank. Full of quirky characters. A lot of fun, wacky inventions. Silly situations that arise from those wacky inventions. A small, little story arc that you don't have to follow to watch it, but is a fun mysterious component.

The first two episodes were a little shaky, but they really got into a great rythm as the season progressed.

I'm so excited you're going to be on there! Hopefully your character survives so they can bring you back.

Ooh!! Eureka!! I love that show! It's coming back to the US this summer!!

Unfortunately, I'm kinda divided in my loyalties... it was the SciFi network's devotion to the Eureka project that was part of the decision to shut down SG-1. They spoof that in "Family Ties".

Still going to watch it, though...

That's a perfect way of describing it. When Season 3 of Atlantis comes out, I'm going to force myself to buckle down and buy it along with SG-1's Season 4 and Season 1 of Eureka.

I really need to get a bike. I haven't had one since I was in Elementary school and I miss it quite a lot. What would people recommend? Something that's not terribly expensive, though. I just need it for simple use, not to jump dirt hills or climb mountains with ^_^;.

Congratulations David! Eureka is one of my most favorite Sci-Fi shows, other than Stargate Atlantis of course. I will be watchng every episode with bated breath!

I love Eureka! It's so quirky and weird!

Sadly I live in the UK so I probably won't see it for a while...then again, with Sci Fi's scheduling you never know!

What's kinda wierd though, is that over here (Scotland) it's called 'A Town Called Eureka'...why, I do not know!

Oooh I read today about your role in Eureka in the new Ask David Nykl! thread on GW and am interested to read more about it here - I really enjoyed the first season of Eureka. It's a good show with a quirky humour to it that I love. Obviously it's not as good as Atlantis.. ;) but I'm looking forward to its return in July (something to fill in the looooong and empty months till Season 4 of Atlantis!!

Oh, Joe M put up a picture of david at his blog (you've got competition, David!) ;)

Eureka is a fun show - sort of reminds me of Northern Exposure (similar humor and fish out of water theme). My only gripe is I've caught a couple lab scenes/technobabble that were a little off, but that's just me being the bio science geek I am.

Congrats on Eureka! Can you give us any tidbits about the story? I thoroughly enjoyed that show and look forward to it's return. I wish Skiffy didn't make us wait so long in between new episodes! Speaking of long waits, it was nice to have a new Atlantis ep this week. I look forward to the rest of Season 3, and love your character!

Hmmm... seems I'll have to... "borrow" the Eureka episode from someone, once it airs. We don't get it here! :-( Congrats for landing the part, though!
Can't wait for the next "guess the location" installment: I want to try to guess it too, this time!

Congrats on the Eureka appearance. The show is quite entertaining - I look forward to seeing your character.

I've been reading your blog for a few entries now, but this is my first time to comment. Always fun to read a new letter from Pegasus. ; )

Though we don't get Eureka down here, I do know it's a great show. I just won't say how I know, but I can't wait, nonetheless!

And I'm going to be utterly shallow here and say that I don't think there's anything awful and evil about the hair. In fact, I find it quite becoming. And I bet it looks a hell of a lot more interesting after biking to work on a windy day. :)

Just when I though life could get no better you blog with news of a cameo on Eureka!!!

OMG!!! Bursting for Joy!

I was saddened that I had to wait until July for the new season to start up again but now it is well worth the wait.

Goodness gracious what is next in the wonderful world of Dr. Z and his alter ego David?

journal4g said...

Hey, just wanted to clarify what I said about the hair, before I get lynched... the haircut I was dissing what the awful, short cut you had in that ep of Jake 2.0. The Dr. Z look is ever so much better for you.

Huh, and on last night's ep of Jake 2.0 (my kid likes it, so we watch) was a certain Scottish guy, that I almost missed. I hear "hey mom, is that..." and by golly, it was Paul. The SciFi world is a small one, eh?

And getting smaller with your new ep of Eureka. *grin*

Congrats on the Eureka! part. I'm very excited now since I enjoyed the show before. Even more to enjoy, right? I'll be keping an eye out. All I know is that it'll be airing sometime during the summer, and no doubt I'll be excited for it when it starts again anyway. Glad to hear you're busy 'cause that means we (as in the fans) get to see more of you.

: P

Oh yes, someone does watch Eureka!! Cool to know that you'll be on there! I'll have to keep a sharp eye out! I guess now you need a guest spot on Battlestar Galactica, and maybe on The Dresden Files (if you just happened to be in Toronto...) and you'd have all the big SciFi series covered!

Cheers David!
