Yikes. It's not looking good in the gulf. The idea that this leak is unstoppable is scary. What would McKay and Zelenka do? They should call. I have underwater experience...
.
Some good news/bad news on the convention front this week: I was tentatively slated for Gatecon in Vancouver in July, but a theatre job in Europe has come up and I will have to miss Gatecon this time around. Regrets about that - I wish I would've known sooner. Nonetheless, since I'll be in Prague, I'll be stopping in to some events in Europe notably the
London Comicon, and events in
Chotebor (CZ) and
Budapest! . Stop in if you're in the neighborhood!
.
Gotta go where the work is, eh? Please, take pictures for us of the places in Prague you like best! Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Europe! Glad you got some work there!
ReplyDeleteGonna miss you at Gatecon!
Nice pic!
With regard to the Gulf, it's very concerning, particularly to those of us living on the coast and dependent on it for many things, including water via desalinization. They say they've finally shut off the leak - but I think they've said that a time or two before.
ReplyDeleteSadly, early on in the spill, a co-worker said, "Are we going to look back on this time and say, 'Hey, remember when we killed the Gulf?'"
Scary stuff indeed. I wish we did have a real life McKay or Zelenka to pull off a last minute save.
I hope the theater job goes well, and have fun at the Europe cons! And yes, the Gulf situation is frightening -- there are people who have ideas on how to fix it, but people appear to be dragging their feet, saying, "We should consider the ramifications of clean-up methods!" and that's slowing down that actual clean-up, if I understand things correctly.
ReplyDeleteLittle animals are dying, and now it's made landfall in Louisiana, and it's getting really stupid. :(
Still! Good luck with the work and the cons!
(I also love the picture, it looks as though Radek's been dragged to a lake for fishing, and has accidentally walked in on Rodney doing... something.)
Leaper, re: the clean-up methods, yep, I believe they are trying to consider the long term effects. I read somewhere that the oxygen "dead zones" that are growing in the oceans can tie back to the microbes they released to help with clean-up prior. So. It's scary, all around; the cure may be worse than the disease, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun in Europe. =] And it would be nice if they had a McKay or Zelenka to fix the leak. It'd probably be something spectacular.
ReplyDeleteIf they were the least bit resourceful they'd retro-engineer something from the wreckage on the sea bottom.
ReplyDeleteOkay, since you won't be in Vancouver, can you recommend some theater to see????
ReplyDeleteI won 2 tickets to the Budapest Con because i read this blog. :D So cool! Can't wait to meet you in person. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
Will you be anywhere in Prague where the general public can come and see, or will I have to come to chotobor for that?
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting more theater work! Just a quick note--the ArtsBeat blog of the New York Times was looking for casting suggestions for Roy Cohn in "Angels in America" and I suggested you!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I love that picture and that hat :).
ReplyDeleteAnd if there really was a McKay and Zalenka, McKay would probably ruin it even further thinking he has the correct solution then ZALENKA would save the day but then guess who would take credit?
FINALY I'll meet you in person (in Chotěboř) - you are one of the very few people I really want get to know!
ReplyDeleteThat pic is sweet. :-)
if mckay and zelenka were involved, the leak in the gulf wouldn't have happened in the first place

ReplyDeleteLove the pic! I hope you have a safe summer. Thanks for stopping in to talk to us!
ReplyDeleteWWMZD? I had to look that up to figure out you were saying "What would McKay and Zelenka Do?" Good one!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your work with the play and the conventions.
Yeah .. Looking forward for Chotěboř meetings...
ReplyDeleteWWMZD?
ReplyDeleteIt would probably go something like this. Radek would start talking about some plan on cleaning up the spill, and McKay would instantly dismiss him. A few days will go by, and the McKay will declare Radek an accidental genius, and the say something along the lines of Radek's idea sparked a brilliant one in McKay's brain.
Yea, something like that.
